Setting Goals To Make Money

Look in a bookstore, library or research online on books on goal setting and you’d be fooled into thinking that you needed to be a rocket scientist in order to be able to set goals that you
can really achieve!
We’ve all heard of KISS, (Keep It Simple Stupid) and it’s a old cliche, but I think really relevant here. Few of us get a real kick out of planning but nearly all of us would agree it’s important!
If you know you want to make $1,000 a week in the
next three months then you have something to aim at – yes it really is
that simple! As the saying goes, “Aim at nothing and you’re sure to hit it!”
My online efforts have earned me a little money but to be honest I’ve been
disappointed! I’ve been blaming everything and anything except the crux
of the problem; i.e. me! But it’s only a small part of me; I’m hard working,
trying all sorts of avenues. I’m purposeful and determined but I’m lacking
in one key area – goal setting and planning!
Yesterday I sat down and started to really evaluate if I wanted to continue
my efforts in online marketing. I took a hard look at what I’ve done and
haven’t done and finally admitted that I really wanted to make a success of it!
So, my immediate aims are to sit down and set myself some achievable short
term goals that are aimed directly at my long term goals.
Can you relate to where I find myself? Have you bought every product under the sun
only to find yourself two steps further back than where you started from and a few
hundred dollars the worse off? Disillusioned? Considering quitting? Don’t do it!
We’ve all read about how the success stories were prefaced by the hardships and the
moments of wanting to quit! Keep with me and together lets set ourselves some
achievable goals! Our goals don’t have to be “Trump” sized! In fact I think we’d be
better off by setting small goals for just the next 7 days! You don’t have to have
the same goals as me or follow the same line of marketing reasoning, but here
are some of my short term goals …
1. Comment on at least 5 internet marketing blogs.
2. Contribute to the forums I belong to and make sure I have backlinks to my blog!
3. Write 2 articles and add them to article directory.
4. Write 3 blog posts this week
There, simple, achievable; wouldn’t you agree? Now all I have to do is … well do them!
Now it’s your turn! Go on, grab that scrap of paper & pen! Open that fancy task
organizing software on your computer, (you know, the one you opened once and
then promptly closed again!) Then go ahead, right them down and get them done!
This is goal setting at it’s most basic level of course because what we really need to do
is set a long term vision that drives a short term vision that has monthly targets set for
which we will need to set weekly goals … But hey, it’s a start at least! If, like me you’re
not used to setting goals for yourself then starting with a simple list and actuallydone
is a big step forward! It’ll give you the impetus and encouragement to keep pressing on
and to keep focused on the endgame! (You do have an endgame, right?)
Without this you’ll just carry on the same old way, round in circles, reading emails for
hours, wasting time on Facebook or IM’s, buying every latest so-called “Millionaire Maker”
and then wondering why you’re still broke, frustrated and no further forward. The “Guru’s
aren’t going to do it for us … the fancy programmes aren’t going to do it for us … WE
have to do it for us!
So join me in setting yourself small acheivable targets and build your business and
confidence from there. I think once we’re in the habit of doing this we’ll see a BIG change
in ourselves and our businesses!
